As I charge headlong into the new year wrapped in the cozy sweater of ambitious optimism, I find myself held back by the heavy, wet socks of website introspection.
Website introspection is like the normal introspection folks often do at the time of year — pondering where we’re at, how we got here, and where to go from here — but in regards to one’s website, rather than one’s life. And after doing some website introspection, I realized:
It’s time for a break-up.
No, I’m not not taking a break from the site itself. In fact, I intend to do more regular blogging this year than I have in recent months.
Rather, it’s time to break the website into two distinct entities.
For a while, darrellhardy.com has had something of a split personality. One personality says, “Hey there! I’m a clever writer who builds worlds, makes jokes, and adds words to games. You should hire me!” The other personality says, “I write and publish roleplaying books. They’re rather good. You should buy them!”
Spoiler alert! That second personality is about to get a lot louder in 2019.
Rather than continue to juggle this dysfunctional duo, I’ve decided to give the publisher half its own website. “Hardy Tales” will soon be moving out of my basement, and will be taking Ghost Punchers, Empire of Venom & Silk, and a handful of other projects with it.
And yes, breaking up is hard to do. But it will be worth it.
