The man behind me whispers in my ear. “We have questions, Mr. Hardy, which you will answer, whether your want to or not. And our first question is this: What is this Ghost Punchers?”
Ah, a good question. I approve. And since I’ve been teasing the thing for a week on Facebook, it’s only fair that I offer up some answers. Besides, I’m tied to this chair and have nothing better to do.
Ghost Punchers is a new storyworld I’m developing. In the terms of a Hollywood pitch, it could be described as “Ghostbusters as directed by Sam Raimi and starring Bruce Campbell.” To put it in terms of a core premise Ghost Punchers is about…
Characters: People who can interact with the spirit world
Conflict: Defending the physical world from malevolent ghosts
Setting: In a world like our own, but stranger, funnier, and much more haunted.
I’ve got some ideas beyond that core premise. But rather than keep them under my ironically-stylish hat, I’ll take this opportunity to develop them here on the blog, where Ghost Punchers can serve as an example of practicing the various storyworld creation principles that I’ve been preaching. You know, just like I promised back in April.
“Very well, Mr. Hardy,” the man hisses. “But these blog posts had better be both entertaining and informative, or we’ll be sending you home in a series of small boxes.”
